| Rep. Nan Hayworth (NY-19) |
Taking the low, partisan road, Congresswoman Nan Hayworth and her mentor, ex-New York Governor George Pataki lauded yesterday's killing of Osama bin Laden, but they failed to mention the President and his national security team that were at the center of the hunt for the Al Qaida terrorist.
In her press release today, Hayworth's omission of the Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces is not only notable, it's omission is awkward:
“Osama bin Laden is gone. We are blessed to have men and women in our military, intelligence, and diplomatic services whose courage, diligence, and perseverance have finally prevailed over evil. As we celebrate this victory - not only for America but for the entire world - we remember the thousands who have lost their lives to bin Laden's wrongdoing, and who have sacrificed their lives in the fight against Al Qaeda over the course of a long and painful decade."
Pataki, who poured funds into Hayworth's campaign through the Citizen's United loophole created by the Supreme Court, also failed to mention Obama, and issued a near identical statement. Perhaps the mysterious "Revere America," the powerful ultraconservative PAC backed by anonymous donors is still pulling the puppet strings for Hayworth and Pataki.
It is disturbing that Hayworth and Pataki are so petty and ultrapartisan that they can't even mention the hard work of this administration to bring Osama bin Laden to justice. Even Republican Congressman Peter King of Long Island demonstrated some class by praising the efforts of Obama on his Web site and on television.
He told CNN host Wolf Blitzer on Monday morning that Obama "showed great courage" in authorizing the attack on bin Laden's Pakistan compound.
"The president did the right thing in doing it," King said. "He was the guy who was on the line trying to make a decision up front. There was no guarantee this was going to work."
This omission by Hayworth, who represents New York's 19th Congressional District, reminds us once again that money can't buy you class.
